BDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).
BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.
BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing self-determination employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

Job Description
About the Position
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an Aboriginal-led team working in partnership with the Loddon Care Hub. The role sits within BDAC’s Family Journeys team and focuses on supporting Aboriginal children, young people, and their families during tough times particularly when a young person is entering care for the first time.
As the Aboriginal Family Worker, you’ll walk alongside families, providing hands-on support in the home and out in community. The work is flexible and responsive, centred around the child, and focused on helping families make the changes needed to safely care for their kids at home.
You’ll be part of a committed, caring team led by Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander people at BDAC, whilst building on strong partnerships between BDAC, Anglicare Victoria, and other local services involved in the Hub.
The Loddon Care Hub brings together different services like foster care, cultural support, family work, mental health and AOD support all in one place, to help keep kids safe and connected to family and culture. The goal is to keep time in care as short as possible, and support families to come back together strong.
Key Responsibilities
A strong commitment to working closely with families to support young mob returning home safely and staying safe and well.
Skilled at understanding family needs and risks, and able to put plans in place that focus on keeping children safe and stable.
Ability to connect with children, young people, and families in a respectful and flexible way, even when they’re finding things tough or unsure about help.
Eager to learn and share knowledge with the broader Care Hub team, taking part in meetings, training, and supporting one another.
Experience or willingness to build respectful partnerships with Aboriginal services and other local organisations to provide culturally safe support.
Comfortable working as part of a team with other services, including Child Protection, to get the best results for families.
Organised and reliable in managing your caseload, reports, and meeting program requirements.
Willing to pitch in with different tasks to help the team succeed and keep services running smoothly.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Good knowledge of Aboriginal culture and how ACCHOs (Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations) work.
Understanding of the Children’s, Youth and Families Act 2005.
Able to stay strong and support people who have experienced trauma.
Skilled in doing safety and wellbeing checks, using the Best Interest Principles from the Children’s, Youth and Families Act.
Good understanding of Child Protection and how the welfare system works, with experience working alongside other professionals as part of a team.
Able to connect with and support vulnerable children, young people, and families, using flexible and creative ways to meet their needs.
Strong written and spoken communication, and good at managing time and staying organised.
Comfortable using computers and different software for reporting and record keeping.
Able to write clear and easy-to-understand plans, letters, emails, and reports that include all the important information
Education, Training and/or Competencies.
Preferred/ desired
A Diploma in Community Services (or a similar course), covering areas like child development, family dynamics, or trauma, and includes hands-on work placements ideally with children and families.
OR
Relevant experience working with Aboriginal children, young people, and families especially in community, support, or case work roles where you’ve built trust, supported people through tough times, and worked alongside other services.
