BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.

Job Description
About the Position
The Disability Navigator will provide targeted, culturally safe support to Aboriginal families navigating the Disability sector including National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This role will focus on empowering families, reducing systemic barriers, and improving access to disability services for Aboriginal children, young people, and families.
Key Responsibilities
Navigating support for families with disabilities including understanding and access the NDIS, eligibility, planning, and review processes.
Advocate for families when plans require adjustment, review or appeal.
Where possible, connect families with culturally appropriate disability services, assessments and supports.
Provide education and build community knowledge around disability rights and NDIS pathways.
Work collaboratively with Family Journeys teams as well as other programs within BDAC to deliver holistic, family-focused support.
Identify and address systemic barriers impacting Aboriginal families within disability services.
Promote early intervention through proactive engagement with families.
Maintain accurate records and reporting in line with BDAC policies.
Participate in community engagement activities to strengthen partnerships and awareness.
Uphold BDAC’s values and commitment to cultural safety, child safety, and inclusion.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
Demonstrated knowledge of disability support systems and NDIS.
Ability to deliver culturally safe and family-centred support including high level of interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with families.
Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families (preferred) and understanding of systemic barriers and strategies to overcome them.
Strong navigation, advocacy and communication skills and experience in community engagement initiatives.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal & external stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and organisational skills and proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation and reporting.
Capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines effectively
Education, Training and/or Competencies
Mandatory
Relevant qualifications in disability, social work, allied health or community services (or equivalent experience).
Preferred/ desired
Previous experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members or in an Aboriginal organisation.
