We are seeking an experienced and values driven Director of Human Resources to provide strategic and operational leadership of the HR function across BDAC. This is a senior executive role reporting directly to the CEO and playing a critical role in strengthening a culturally safe, accountable and engaged workforce that delivers positive outcomes for Community.

About the role
The Director of Human Resources leads end to end HR strategy and operations across BDAC, ensuring people, culture and Community are central to all decisions. This role balances empathy with accountability and provides hands on leadership across recruitment, workforce planning, employee relations, performance management, wellbeing, policy, governance and compliance. You will partner closely with the CEO, Operational Leadership team, managers and staff to build people management capability, manage risk and support organisational growth, while embedding BDAC’s values and commitment to self-determination.
Key responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight of all HR functions including recruitment, performance management, capability development, employee relations, organisational design, wellbeing and workers compensation
Manage complex employee relations matters, including engagement with Fair Work, WorkSafe and WorkCover
Lead change processes including restructures, policy implementation, system reviews and HR projects
Develop and implement HR and workforce strategies aligned to BDAC’s strategic direction
Provide high level strategic advice on organisational design, capability, performance, employee relations and wellbeing
Ensure compliance with employment legislation, awards and regulatory obligations
Maintain strong governance over employment decisions, remuneration, job architecture and delegated authority
Lead development and implementation of contemporary HR policies, processes and systems
Lead initiatives that enhance organisational culture, engagement, retention and wellbeing
Drive continuous improvement to streamline processes, build leadership capability and improve staff outcomes
About you
You are an experienced, values driven and collaborative HR leader, with the ability to operate strategically while remaining practical and hands on. You are comfortable navigating complexity, supporting leaders through difficult matters and embedding culturally informed HR practices in a community services organisation.
You will bring:
A minimum of 10 years’ operational HR experience
Proven experience in a senior or strategic HR leadership role (community services, ACCO or NFP experience highly regarded)
Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, industrial relations and HR best practice
Exceptional leadership, communication and influencing skills
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop others
Sound judgement with the ability to balance risk, relationships, fairness and outcomes
Experience delivering change, projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Strong organisational and time management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS (ELMO highly regarded)
