BDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).
BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.
BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing self-determination employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

The Position
Working closely with Kindergarten Director, Early Childhood Teachers and Educators, you will be responsible for contributing to and delivering a quality 3- and 4-year-old Kinder learning program that promotes and embeds Aboriginal culture and supports the meaningful engagement of all children and families within the program.

Key Responsibilities
Teachers and educators are responsible for delivering high quality kindergarten curriculum that reflects our service philosophy, meets regulatory and framework requirements and supports the holistic development of children within a team-teaching model.
Community focus
- Develop and maintain relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, facilitating strong connections for children to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and country in collaboration with educators, teachers and other early years staff.
- Build and maintain relationships, alongside the Kindergarten Director and wider early years team, with Traditional Owners, Elders and Respected Persons and wider Community to ensure that Dja Dja Wurrung and Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture underpins all elements of the kindergarten program.
- Engage families in culturally safe and meaningful ways, recognising them as children’s first educators.
- Build and maintain respectful partnerships with families and children and respond sensitively to individual child and family needs whilst supporting participation and connection.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully both within our early years team and the wider organisation.
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture that prioritises educator wellbeing and professional growth. Actively participate in team meetings, reflective practice, professional development and continuous improvement practices.
Education
- Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of a Community-based kindergarten curriculum, drawing on Dja Dja Wurrung and Aboriginal ways of knowing and being while also reflecting the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).
- Provide intentional teaching that is responsive to children’s strengths, interests and developmental goals.
- Support an ongoing culture of reflective practice by actively contributing to the kindergarten’s continuous improvement journey both individually and collaboratively.
- Apply strong knowledge of contemporary early childhood learning theory and practice with a focus on wellbeing focused differentiated teaching practices.
- Observe, document and assess children’s learning in line with regulatory requirements with particularly focus on cultural identity and belonging, wellbeing and regulation and communication and language development.
- Reflect the Kindergarten’s Statement of Philosophy, Vision and Values, along with BDAC’s Vision and Core Values in everyday practice.
Compliance
- Maintain an environment that is physically, emotionally and culturally safe for all children, families and Community.
- Support the Kindergarten Director and teaching team to manage the kindergarten in accordance with regulatory frameworks including assessment against the National Quality Framework (NQF), and relevant standards, legislation and regulations.
- Identify and address risks and non-compliance in the Kindergarten.
- Share responsibility for health and safety and risk management within the Kindergarten and maintaining a safe environment for children, families, team members, and all visitors with ECT and other educators.
- Maintain a thorough understanding and awareness of relevant Child Protection Law, Child Safe Standards applicable to the jurisdiction and proactively respond to any child protection matters through appropriate escalation pathways.
As required
- Consent to acting as person in day-to-day charge of the Kindergarten in absence of Kindergarten Director/ Nominated Supervisor.
- Fulfil obligations as set out in the National Law and National Regulations as the person in day-to-day charge in the absence of Kindergarten Director/Nominated Supervisor
- Duties may include, but are not limited to, responsibility for:
- Educational programs
- Supervision and safety of children
- Entry to and exit from the premises
- Food and beverages
- Administration of medication
- Sleep and rest
- Excursions
What you will bring
- Demonstrated ability to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.
- Experience working in a community based educational setting.
- Previous experience working within the NQS and related regulatory standards and requirements.
- Teaching experience within an early education setting, encompassing a strong understanding of child development and play based learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team-teaching environment.
- Values led pedagogy focused on equitable, attachment driven and wellbeing focused practice.
Education, Training and/or Competencies
Mandatory
- ACEQA recognised qualification of Bachelor level or above.
- Current VIT registration (or eligibility)
- Experience obtaining and maintaining accreditation under the National Quality Framework (NQF).
- Previous experience in the Early Childhood sector (preferred 3 years + experience).
- Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate and Anaphylaxis Management Certificate.
- Knowledge of National Regulations, NQF, VEYLD and EYLF.
Preferred/ desired
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members or in an Aboriginal organisation.
