BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.

Job Description

About the Role

We are currently seeking a dedicated Culture Care Connect Worker - Suicide Prevention to join our team at Bendigo and District Aboriginal Cooperative. This is a fixed-term position located at our Queen St site within the Culture Care Connect department. As a Culture Care Connect Worker - Suicide Prevention, you will be responsible for providing vital support and interventions aimed at preventing suicide within the Indigenous community. Your role will involve working closely with individuals and families to deliver culturally sensitive care and support, ultimately contributing to improved mental health outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging with individuals and families to assess their needs and develop tailored care plans
  • Delivering suicide prevention interventions and support services in a culturally appropriate manner
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure holistic care for clients
  • Providing education and training on suicide prevention within the community
  • Maintaining accurate records of client interactions and progress
  • Participating in regular team meetings and professional development activities

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of Indigenous culture, strong communication skills, empathy, resilience, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. A relevant qualification in social work, counselling, or a related field is highly desirable. However, we are looking for an individual with consolidated skills and extensive experience working as a Suicide Prevention Practitioner. Key Selection Criteria 

  • At least 2 years’ experience working as a case manager working in Suicide Prevention and/or Mental Health.
  • Ability to work with high and complex situations. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of suicide prevention and after care methodologies or strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of clients / patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effectively relationships with internal and external stakeholders and service providers.

Preferred / Desired / Mandatory Education, Training and/or Competencies 

  • Qualification or experience working in Mental Health, Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention.
